2017 REALTOR® Safety Day

Safety first ... safety always. Or, as SVAR Education Committee chair Al Wells said, "Better to be alive and paranoid than dead and not having trusted your intuition." Today members attended the association's Safety Day for cyber, social media and personal safety tips for REALTORS, with expertise provided by Officers John Vasquez and Harold Shreves of the Prince George County Police Department and Ryan Cochran, chief information security officer for TowneBank and its companies. A special thank you goes to sponsors Atkinson Insurance Agency and Old Republic Home Mortgage. Look for complete safety tips from today's event in your next Southside REALTOR magazine.

2017 Picnic

One pie in the face, one near-pie in the face, two corn hole tourney winners, countless door prize winners, creative costumes, some amazing singing and fantastic food! We'd say the 2017 rock n' roll-themed SVAR Members' Picnic was a resounding success! Congrats to Perry Shelton and Jake Fuller of C&F Mortgage for their stunning corn hole victory, and thanks to President-Elect Brett Harris and Director Nancy Fields Steinke for their good-natured volunteerism to take pies in the face for charity (Nancy lucked out - her thrower missed ... but Brett Harris' ... well, watch the video). Thanks to Bobby Perkins for his barbecuing finesse and to the sponsors and committee for all their hard work. Tomorrow we'll have a rockin' video and more pictures to complete the fun. Stay tuned! Please tag and share! Thanks to all for coming out ... YOU are what makes SVAR so great.

2017 Charity Golf Tournament

The mercury doesn't lie ... it was a hot one, but in more ways than one! SVAR's second annual Charity Golf Tournament benefitting Homes For Our Troops - held yesterday at Dogwood Trace Golf Course in Petersburg - sizzled with fun thanks to a healthy dose of competition among the 20 or so teams, food, prizes and great cause. Thank you to the event committee and volunteers for all of their work to make it a success, and to generous sponsors Harris & Associates, Long & Foster, VCB and Old Republic Home Protection (all Platinum); 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty, Weichert Realtors Brockwell & Portwood and Presidential Mortgage Group (all Gold); Fraternal Order of Eagles and HMS Home Warranty (both Silver); and 1st Choice Realty, Heritage Custom Cabinets, Adolph's, C.F.S. and Village Coin Shoppe (all Hole In One). Congrats to the day's winners, who included: Emergency Special Services, first place; Napier ERA, second place; the Gibbs and Story Team, third place; Old Dominion Title, last place; and putting contest winner Bob Rhodes from the Brett Harris Team. (We'll share more winners as they become available.) With tons of fun, fantastic food and great prizes, we'd say the tourney scored a hole in one for the charity and everyone who took part!

2014 Murder Mystery Dinner Theater

Oh, the drama! (Literally!) The spotlight shined on Swift Creek Mill Playhouse when real-estate industry professionals turned actors for the Southside Virginia Association of REALTORS' second annual Murder Mystery Dinner Theater. Murder, mystery, mayhem and and a little CSI-type sleuthing, too, made for a memorable and interactive evening, during which guests enjoyed a specially-written script for the occasion, a meal and the camaraderie of trying to figure out just "whodunit." The cast featured members Butch Fulcher as philandering victim Thomas Whittingham, Mary Ann White as Alexandria Whittingham, Melinda Sexton as Claudia Lewis, Scott Whittle as Richard Widdle, Stephanie Stables as Sophia Redman, Cathie Gray as Paula Collin, Eileen Knode as Detective Briggs and special guest Vickie Zevgolis as Elizabeth Mann. So, whodunit? "Wife" Alexandria Whittingham and "mistress" Sophia Redman.
